The Foundation for Mongolia's Sustainable Future: A discussion on the draft law on "Climate Change" took place.

Mongolia is developing a standalone draft law on "Climate Change" with the aim of making a tangible contribution to the global fight against climate change and strengthening national adaptation capacity. On April 11, 2026, a joint discussion among international organizations and industry experts was successfully held regarding the issue of carbon credits, carbon market within this draft law.

Why is this law important for Mongolia?

Due to its geographical location and extreme climate, Mongolia is one of the countries most strongly affected by climate change compared to the global average. In addition to aligning with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, establishing domestic regulations that reflect national characteristics has become an urgent necessity of our time.

"Solution grounded in Mongolian soil."

Even though this law aligns with international benchmarks in accordance with the Paris Agreement, the discussion participants reached a consensus on the importance of ensuring it is tailored to the specific characteristics of Mongolia.

Stakeholders of the discussion

Representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), consultants from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the GOSS NGO, and other stakeholders participated in the discussion.

Expected results

This draft law will not only provide a major impetus for Mongolia's transition to a "Green Economy," but it is also believed that this law will play a historical role in guaranteeing the right of Mongolians to live in a healthy and safe environment.
